About Writer Shelves
Writer Shelves is an online writing resource tilted toward genre writers and skewed by my (heidi2524) personal interests and not-so subtle agenda to become a New York Times Best Selling author. Short, informative posts show up twice a week* to help you with the craft and art and marketing and promotion of your writing.
The information on this site is what I have learned at various writing conferences in the US and abroad, read in books and online, and learned by sitting my butt down and typing a lot of words, sometimes in short spurts, sometimes in hour-long binges. I have sold a short story, self-published a children’s picture book, and have a manuscript out to an agent. I’ll let you know more as it happens.
You know there are millions of writing resource and author websites out there (33 million according to Google as of July 3, 2009), so why read this one?
- Because your time is valuable and each post won’t take more than 3 minutes to read (think Seth Godin)
- Because this is the beginning of the journey and all the mountains and valleys are as yet untraveled, just like some of you
- Because each post has a one-of-a-kind Artist Trading Card created by me as the related image – original art and words for the free price of one
Right now, there is nothing for sale on this site. If you’d like to trade something for one of my ATCs (Artist Trading Cards), please contact me.
If you click through a link to Amazon.com and buy something, anything, I’ll get a few cents through my affiliate program with them. The iTunes links [
] are also part of an affiliate program and will open your iTunes application and take you to the iTunes store.
Eventually, there will be an ebook or two and links to my published works. For any money you would have spent here right now, please consider donating it to Kids Need to Read or participating in a Kiva loan instead.
And because some people may wonder, the shelves at the top of the page are photos of my books shelves. Design by Reese did a fantastic job of turning my wordy ideas into a warm, comfortable WordPress theme. I’ll post about what’s on those shelves and what they mean to me later. I’d also like to thank Chris Guillebeau for his 279 Days to Overnight Success ebook which gave me the road map to realize my intentions for this website.
Thanks for clicking through to see this About page. If you have anything you want to share, feel free to contact me, or leave a comment on a post.
* I started out keeping to a Tuesday and Thursday schedule, but after 6 months, I’m going to make it easier on myself and just put out the two posts a week as I get to them. Writing with less guilt – I haz it.
