Write Something
AKA Write Anything
There are lots of reasons not to write. I ran into more than the usual amount today, with the best one being the headache I’ve had for three days is now a migraine.
But it’s Thursday and I want to post to this website.
So I’m writing something, a bit of anything, because it’s better than nothing.
color wormChris Guillebeau, whose free “279 Days to Overnight Success” manifesto prompted me to start this site, had a recent post about how “What You Don’t Do Doesn’t Matter“. His context is thinking about helping someone doesn’t actually help them at all.
Same thing goes for writing. Thinking about how great it will be to see your novel on the New York Times Best-seller list doesn’t create a manuscript you can submit to an agent.
Writing that first sentence is a more tangible start.
Writing down five adjectives that describe your character is one step closer to making them real.
Writing the dialog for the climax of your book anchors the conflict.
Whatever your reason not to, write something.
Even if it’s just a blog post.
